The Solarize Newburyport Program ended on February 28th, 2018

The City of Newburyport along with the Solarize Newburyport Volunteer team is pleased to announce the participation in the state’s “Solarize Mass” plus program.

This program is similar to the 2012 “Solarize Mass” program offered by the City of Newburyport in partnership with Mass Clean Energy Center.  The 2012 program resulted in 46 contracts from residents and small businesses totaling over 423kW of electrical capacity contracted. Residents and businesses received cumulatively over $400,000 in federal and state tax credits, and over $100,000 in rebates. We are expecting similar results with the new 2017 Solarize Plus program.

What is Solarize Newburyport?

Solarize MASS Plus is a program created by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to increase solar and other clean energy technologies for all in selected communities. In the spring of 2017, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER), launched the 2017 Solarize Massachusetts Program.  Lincoln-Sudbury-Wayland, Newburyport, and Winthrop were chosen to participate in Solarize Plus Mass group purchasing program. While this will be the second time residents of Newburyport can take advantage of solar discounted pricing, it will be the first time that an additional clean technology will be included. Newburyport chose efficient air source heat pumps as it’s second technology (in addition to solar electric). Some homes are not suitable for solar electric but they may be able to benefit from the heating and cooling cost saving by installing air source heat pumps.

How does it work?

A coordinated community education, marketing and outreach effort is targeted at home and small business owners and is organized by a partnership of municipal leaders, grassroots volunteers and the (to be determined) installers. Bulk purchasing discounts will be offered allowing residence and small businesses to purchase solar electric and/or efficient air source heat pumps at below market rate prices.  The program’s sign up period runs through January 31st, 2018. Sign up now for a free site evaluation if you are interested in going solar or reducing heat and air conditioning costs with air source heat pumps.
